Report: January target still ‘dreams’ of a switch to Tottenham this month

Gazzetta dello Sport have revealed that Nicolo Zaniolo still ‘dreams’ of a switch to Tottenham Hotspur after rejecting a chance to join Bournemouth.

Once Tottenham announced the signing of Arnaut Danjuma on loan earlier this week, it appeared as though the club’s pursuit of Zaniolo was over.

However, that is not the case according to some reports over the last 24 hours, with Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth telling the Last Word of Spurs YouTube channel on Thursday that Spurs still remain on the Roma star’s trail despite snapping up Danjuma.

Meanwhile, CalcioMercato revealed yesterday that Bournemouth made an offer of €30m (£26.3m) plus bonuses for Zaniolo, which while being to the Serie A club’s liking, was turned down by the player.

This information has now also been backed up by Gazzetta, who state that the 23-year-old made it clear that he only wants to join a top club.

It is explained that Zaniolo is desperate to leave Roma and he and his agent Claudio Vigorelli are ‘engaged in a frantic search’ to find a new club before the window closes.

The publication adds that while Tottenham ‘remain’ the Italy international’s ‘dream’ destination, AC Milan have now come to be his ‘preferred’ choice after ‘recent contacts’. However, Gazzetta state that the Rossoneri are finding the negotiations with Roma for Zaniolo to be ‘complicated’.

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect that the reason Tottenham shifted their attention to Danjuma is that they felt that Zaniolo preferred a move to Milan rather than North London after the Serie A club entered the race for the 23-year-old earlier this week. So, I would be extremely surprised if the North Londoners reignite their pursuit of the Roma star this window.
