Report: Jorge Mendes could help Man United beat Spurs to midfielder

According to a report from The Daily Express, Manchester United’s improved relationship with Jorge Mendes could help the Red Devils beat Tottenham to the signing of Ruben Neves.

Tottenham allegedly made a late move for Neves on transfer deadline day but the North London club were unable to get a deal over the line.

The midfielder was also rumoured to be on Man United’s radar but the Red Devils also failed to strengthen their midfield ranks despite some impressive additions in other areas of the pitch.

It remains to be seen whether either Spurs or United will renew their interest in Neves in January but according to The Express, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men might have the advantage in the race for the Portuguese international.

The report explains that United’s relationship with Neves’ representative, Mendes, was previously strained.

However, it was Mendes who approached United over the summer to propose the idea of re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo and it is alleged that tensions between the Old Trafford hierarchy and the super-agent have eased over the summer.

The Express claim that Mendes could thus help Solksjaer’s men get a deal for Neves over the line.

The report also adds that Wolves expected Neves to depart during the summer transfer window and would be willing to sell the midfielder for around £40m.

Mendes is also Nuno’s agent and has a good relationship with Spurs. So, I am not sure him being Neves’ representative will be too big an advantage for United. If Neves is available for £40m, we should be all over that deal as that represents terrific value for money.
