Report: Jorge Mendes told Mourinho not to take up ‘complicated’ Spurs job

According to the print edition of Portuguese publication Correio da Manha (as relayed by Sport Witness), Jose Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes advised the 58-year-old against taking the Tottenham job.

While the timing of Mourinho’s sacking came as a bit of surprise to some ahead of the, it did appear as if the writing was on the wall for the Portuguese coach on the back of Tottenham’s recent struggles.

Reports have indicated that Mourinho had lost a significant portion of the Spurs dressing room, ultimately leaving Daniel Levy with little choice but to pull the plug.

If Correio da Manha are to believed, Mourinho was warned by his agent prior to taking over at Spurs that the job will not be easy.

It is said that Mendes told Mourinho that Tottenham was a ‘complicated club’ and was not in favour of his client taking over from Mauricio Pochettino.

However, the former Spurs boss failed to listen to Mendes and ‘decided by his head’ that the job would be the right one for him to take on.

Spurs Web Opinion

Based on the interviews that Mourinho had given after leaving Manchester United and the way he spoke in his first press conference as Tottenham boss, it appeared as if he considered the Spurs job to be the perfect one for him to build his reputation back. It could be that the reality inside the club was different to Jose’s expectations but he clearly was not able to get the best out of the squad at his disposal.
