Report: Jose Mourinho ‘a huge fan’ of striker linked with Spurs move

According to a report by The Sun, Jose Mourinho is a huge fan of Southampton striker Danny Ings who has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham reportedly made an approach for Ings last summer but the Saints were in no mood to part ways with the experienced striker.

It was claimed earlier this week that Spurs were planning another approach for the England international at the end of the season with the player said to be stalling on signing a new deal at St Mary’s.

The striker’s current contract runs until the summer of 2022 which means that Southampton could be put in a difficult position next summer if he still has not put pen to paper on a new deal.

The sticking point between the parties is said to be the value of the release clause in the new contract.

The Sun suggests that Mourinho is keen on bringing the striker to North London and that even though the Saints are prepared to make Ings their highest-paid player, the 28-year-old dreams of playing Champions League football.

With reports indicating that Ings is not playing hardball to get a higher salary, it seems clear that the striker would be open to a move away from St Mary’s in the summer. He would be a brilliant signing if we could somehow pull it off as I believe the Saints man can comfortably play alongside Kane.
