Report: Jose Mourinho contacts Ballon d’Or winner about joining him at Spurs

According to a report by Spanish outlet El Chiringuito TV (as relayed by The Express), Jose Mourinho has contacted Luka Modric over a sensational return to Tottenham Hotspur.

Mourinho was the man who took the Croatian midfielder to the Santiago Bernabeau back in the summer of 2012.

Although Modric failed to hit the expected heights in his first season with the Spanish giants and only went on to fulfil his potential after Mourinho left the club, the midfielder has previously revealed that the Portuguese coach was instrumental his switch to the capital.

The 35-year-old even admitted earlier this year that he was pleased to see Mourinho being appointed as head coach at Spurs and that he was the right man to guide his former club to silverware.

Modric is now into the final year of his contract at Madrid and will be free to speak to other clubs from next month.

However, El Chiringuito TV report that Mourinho is trying to convince the midfielder to return to North London in order to help the Lilywhites in their quest for trophies.

Even at 35 years of age, Modric has shown this season that he still has what it takes to perform at the top level. While he might not be the player he once was, there is no doubt that he can be a fantastic option to have, even if it might be for the short-term. However, it seems unlikely that Madrid will sell him in January given how regularly he has featured so far for Los Blancos this season.
