Report: Jose Mourinho eyeing centre-back Paratici wants at Spurs

Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that AS Roma could make a move for rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Merih Demiral this summer.

Strengthening at centre-back is expected to be a priority for Tottenham this summer and Demiral is one of the options rumoured to be on the club’s radar.

The Turkish international has struggled for regular game time since moving to Juventus in 2019.

It was reported last week that Tottenham and Everton were both eyeing a move for the 23-year-old this summer.

Some sources from Italy also added that Spurs’ new managing director of football, Fabio Paratici, might hand the North Londoners an advantage over the Toffees in the race for the centre-back.

The Lilywhites thus seemed to be the front-runners for the Juve star’s signature, with Nicolo Schira revealing on Thursday that Spurs had already begun talks with the player’s representatives.

However, Gianluca Di Marzio has now claimed that former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho could look to bring Demiral to Roma, having identified the defender as a possible replacement for Chris Smalling.

The report adds that Juve are ready to cash in on the central defender for around €40m (£34.3m).

Spurs Web Opinion:

While Turkey didn’t cover themselves in glory at Euro 2020, Demiral still shows a lot of promise. I’m not sure he is the experienced head that Spurs need to transform the back line but he could be great if Tottenham sign two central defenders.
