Report: Jose Mourinho keen on signing 20-year-old central defender for Spurs

According to Duncan Castles, Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race to sign Lille defender Sven Botman during the January transfer window.

Previous reports have suggested that Tottenham are in the market for a central defender this month, with the likes of Milan Skriniar and Sergio Ramos being linked with a move to the North Londoners (Evening Standard).

Castles has now claimed that Botman has emerged as a target for the Lilywhites on the back of his impressive showing in Ligue 1 this season.

Lille only signed the central defender in the summer but his performances are seemingly turning heads already.

Castles revealed on the Transfer Window Podcast (as relayed by The Express) that Mourinho wants a pacy left-sided centre-back and sees Botman as a perfect fit.

He claimed that Spurs are ready to push Liverpool for the 20-year-old’s signature this month.

However, the journalist also suggested that a January move is unlikely for the Netherlands under-21 international, with no club coming close to offering the kind of money it would take to price the youngster away from Lille.

Spurs Web Opinion

Based on the number of central defenders we have been linked with over the past couple of weeks, it is clear that it is a position that Mourinho is keen on strengthening. If we were to bring another central defender in, I would not be surprised to see Davinson Sanchez leaving the club.
