Report: Jose Mourinho makes decision on Eric Dier’s future at Tottenham

A report from Football Insider claims that Jose Mourinho has made his mind up regarding the future of Eric Dier at Tottenham Hotspur.

It is claimed that, when football in the UK commences again, Dier will be deployed as a permanent central defender, rather than a defensive midfielder.

This comes after Dier revealed in a recent interview that he sees centre-back as his best position, despite many years of playing in midfield under Pochettino and Southgate.

Mourinho apparently agrees with this diagnosis and sees Dier as direct competition for the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Davinson Sanchez, and Japhet Tanganga.

Dier’s current Spurs contract runs out in the summer of 2021, and the Daily Star recently reported that the North London club want to put pen to paper on a new deal.

However, Dier apparently wanted assurances that his future would be at centre-back, rather than midfield, before he signed the contract.
