Report: Jose Mourinho sees Tottenham player as his ‘plan B’ transfer option

CalcioMercato have claimed that while Japhet Tanganga continues to be on the radars of both AC Milan and AS Roma, the Spurs star is not the number one target for either club.

Until a couple of weeks ago, reports indicated that Tanganga was expected to complete a move to Milan (Football Insider) but Paris Saint-Germain’s Abdou Diallo has since emerged as the Rossoneri’s number one target (Gianluca Di Marzio).

On Sunday, AS Roma Live claimed that Spurs were willing to offer Tanganga to Roma as a makeweight in a deal to sign Nicolo Zaniolo.

CalcioMercato have now stated that Milan are still hopeful of signing Diallo on loan before the transfer window closes.

The report claims that Tanganga is waiting for ‘signals’ from Stefano Pioli’s side but contacts have ‘cooled down’ over the last few days.

Roma are also said to have enquired about the Tottenham defender’s availability but it is explained that the Giallorossi view the 23-year-old as an alternative to Manchester United’s Eric Bailly, who is Jose Mourinho’s top defensive target.

If neither Milan nor Roma make a move for Tanganga, one would still expect one or two Premier League clubs to show interest in the defender in the final weeks of the window. One of the newly promoted clubs might potentially be willing to take a gamble on the 23-year-old.
