According to CalcioMercato (as relayed by The Metro), Jose Mourinho wants to take Tottenham target Trevor Chalobah to Rome in January.
A whole host of outlets have reported over the last few weeks that signing a centre-back would be Tottenham’s top priority in January (90 min).
It was suggested by GiveMeSport on October 26 that Chalobah is one of four names on the top of the North London club’s wishlist, with the 24-year-old allegedly seen by Spurs as an ‘intriguing option’ since he can also step into midfield if required.
It was subsequently reported by Football Insider last week that Chelsea are expected to cash in on the centre-back in January to fund moves for their other targets, with Tottenham expect to ‘throw their hat in the ring’ for the player.
Roma enter race with Spurs for Trevoh Chalobah
If CalcioMercato’s latest update is to be believed, Roma have now also entered the race for Chalobah’s signature.
The outlet reveals that the centre-back would be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge in January if a suitable offer arrives, with Mourinho having identified the player as the ideal option to bolster the Giallorossi backline.
The report adds that the Serie A club are expected to face quite a bit of competition for Chalobah, with Spurs, Bayern Munich and Newcastle United named as the clubs watching the Blues star.
Spurs Web Opinion
Chalobah might be tempted to follow the footsteps of the other English centre-backs who have had plenty of success in the Serie A over recent years.
However one would think that the chance to remain in London and work with a manager like Postecoglou would be quite tempting for the 24-year-old.
