Report: Jose Mourinho wants to bring Real Madrid defender to North London

According to a report by Don Balon, Jose Mourinho wants to bring Real Madrid central defender Nacho Fernandez to North London this summer.

Nacho has been at Real Madrid since the age of eleven and has gone on to make 199 appearances for the club in all competitions (transfermarkt).

The 30-year-old has failed to become a regular in the first team at any point during his time with the Spanish giants.

After being restricted to just one league start so far this season (transfermarkt.com), it is said that the central defender is now looking to leave the Spanish capital for a new challenge.

The report claims that Jose Mourinho wants to revamp his defence and has identified Nacho as a player who can improve the Spurs backline.

It is suggested that the Portuguese coach, who handed Nacho his Real Madrid debut back in 2011, believes the experienced stopper can bring a winning mentality to Spurs.

Real Madrid are said to be willing to sell the defender for €20million this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is possibly some truth to this report given that it was Jose who handed Nacho his Real Madrid debut and he may want to bring in players with a winning mentality. However, I am not a fan of Nacho and don’t believe he has the qualities to succeed in the Premier League. He will certainly not be an upgrade on the central defenders we already have at the club.
