Report: Jose Mourinho wants to raid Tottenham for midfielder

According to a report from Corriere dello Sport (as relayed by Sportsmole), Jose Mourinho wants to bring Tottenham’s Harry Winks to AS Roma.

Winks has struggled to force himself into the Tottenham team of late, having started just one Premier League game so far this campaign.

The midfielder has thus been linked with a move away from Spurs in January and he admitted last month that he wants to play regular football.

Following Antonio Conte’s arrival at Tottenham, the North London club have been linked with moves for several midfield players including the likes of AC Milan’s Franck Kessie and Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella

Some pundits have opined that Spurs strengthening in the midfielder area in January could mean the end of Winks’ journey at his boyhood club. Everton and Aston Villa are thought to be leading the race for the 25-year-old.

According to Corriere’s update, another potential option could open up for Winks in the form of Roma. Mourinho’s is alleged to be keen on strengthening his midfield and is said to have identified the Spurs star as a potential option for the Serie A club.

Spurs Web Opinion

On the face of it, this rumour might sound ridiculous since Jose did not fancy Winks during his time at Spurs.

However, one has to consider that his Roma squad are not as good as Tottenham’s and that Winks could actually be well suited to the Serie A given that he will have more time on the ball in Italy. So, this rumour is not as far fetched as it might seem at first glance.
