Report: Jose Mourinho will allow ‘Aurier to decide’ if he can face Newcastle

Victory in the North London Derby on Sunday brought a good feeling back to everyone associated with Tottenham Hotspur but we were met by shocking news on Monday morning that Serge Aurier’s brother, Christopher Aurier, had been murdered in France.

Christopher, who was himself a footballer for Rodeo Toulouse in the French fifth division last season, was reportedly shot outside a night club in Toulouse in the early hours of Monday morning (SkySports).

The Telegraph now reports that Tottenham are prepared to give their full support to Aurier after the tragedy.

Jose Mourinho will reportedly speak to the right-back about his state of mind and the club are said to be ready to offer him compassionate leave if he wants it.

The 27-year-old will thus decide whether or not he will face Newcastle United on Wednesday.

If Aurier is not involved against the Magpies, Mourinho will have a decision to make on who he starts at right-back.

The club lacking a natural replacement for the Ivory Coast international, especially with Japhet Tanganga only just recovering from a back stress fracture.

Aurier certainly cannot be expected to be ready to involve against Newcastle. The defender should be given as long as he needs before getting back to football. In my opinion, he should take the rest of the season off.
