Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly cooled their interest in Cristian Romero and are interested in Chris Smalling.
Italian journalist Enrico Camelio appeared as a guest on Calciomercato’s show and claimed that Tottenham’s interest in the Atalanta defender has ‘cooled down’ after failing to meet their valuation, before adding that it ‘seems to be’ that the North Londoners are now interested in the former Manchester United player.
Smalling is about to start his third season with Roma, having initially moved to the club on loan from Manchester United in 2019, and will be managed by Jose Mourinho in the campaign ahead.
The deender recently insisted that he has no problems with the Portuguese over a previous disagreement when they were both at Old Trafford over the 31-year-old’s willingness to play through pain. Smalling said he was, Mourinho suggested otherwise (BBC).
SpursWeb Opinion
It seems a bit left-field that Tottenham have switched their attention to Smalling when talks are reported to be at such an advanced stage with Atalanta for Romero.
Whether Jose Mourinho would be prepared to do business with Tottenham over Smalling is another potential obscatle.
