Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona have reached an agreement for the transfer of Emerson Royal, according to Spanish journalist Mario Cortegana.
It is said that Tottenham have offered the Brazilian defender a contract worth €2.5m a year (£2.1m), with the 22-year-old also seeking bonuses within the terms.
Emerson is reported to have been keen to remain with the Catalan giants initially, however, Spurs’ managing director of football Fabio Paratici has personally travelled to Barcelona to hold discussions with the right-back.
North London rivals Arsenal were also keen on landing the player, with Tottenham having acted the quicker of the two Premier League sides to enter talks with Barcelona (Guardian).
Emerson spent the following two-and-a-half years on loan at Real Betis, helping the club to qualify for the Europa League last season.
Tottenham are still looking to offload Serge Aurier ahead of the transfer window closing, with the Ivorian attracting interest from Ligue 1 side Lille (Daily Mail).

It appears as if Emerson will be a Tottenham player come midnight, tomorrow. Japhet Tangana has started the season in impressive form, ahead of Matt Doherty and it remains to be seen whether the plan will be for Tanganga to look to move back into the heart of defence, or if Nuno plans for three players to battle it out for the right-back berth.
