Report: Julian Nagelsmann is now in talks over new manager job – Not with Spurs

TuttoMercatoWeb journalist Marco Conterio has revealed that Napoli are now in talks with Julian Nagelsmann over their managerial vacancy.

After Tottenham’s move for Arne Slot collapsed last week, it has been suggested over recent days that Ange Postecoglou, Luis Enrique and Ruben Amorim head the club’s three-man shortlist to replace Antonio Conte at the helm.

It was even reported by The Times last Friday that Spurs could open fresh talks with Julian Nagelsmann over the vacancy.

The outlet added that the North London club had called off talks with the German two weeks ago but could now consider resuming them again.

An update from The Daily Mail suggested on Sunday that the 35-year-old himself is in the dark over whether Spurs are interested in him, having not heard back from the Lilywhites hierarchy following initial contacts.

Conterio has now taken to social media to reveal that Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has begun talks with Nagelsmann regarding replacing the outgoing Luciano Spalletti at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

Spurs Web Opinion

These latest updates regarding Nagelsmann suggest that it was Tottenham who pulled the plug on the German rather than the other way around.

Napoli might be Serie A champions but I believe that the Spurs job would be a lot more appealing to top managers, given the lure of the Premier League.

Perhaps Tottenham do not like the idea of appointing another big-name manager who might see the job as being slightly beneath him and thus be more prone to shifting blame if things are not going according to plan.
