Report: Juventus agree personal terms with former Tottenham target

Tottenham Hotspur may be on the lookout for a new centre back or two in the near future, as their current first-choice pairing near an exit.

Spurs have enjoyed one of the best central defensive partnerships in world football in recent years, with Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld at the back.

The inseparable pair played together at Ajax, Tottenham, and for Belgium, meaning they know each other’s games inside out, and it shows on the pitch.

However, both players are now in the final years of their current contracts in North London, and they are both also over the 30-years-old mark, making a new long-term deal unlikely.

Therefore, Spurs may have to turn their attention towards replacements for the future., which could come in the form of Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez.

Back in 2018, Tottenham were linked with a move for Ajax teenage sensation (Football London), Matthijs de Ligt, who would have been an amazing signing in hindsight.

After his superb season as captain, de Ligt has since attracted some of the biggest clubs in the world, and has now reportedly agreed personal terms with Juventus (Sky Sports).

Spurs Web Opinion:

While it was unlikely that Spurs could ever compete for de Ligt this summer after his valuation sky-rocketed, Tottenham should be on the lookout for similar players. Jan and Toby are near-irreplaceable at Spurs, and the club will likely have to spend big to get the right calibre of player through the doors.
