Report: Juventus could enter race for Spurs-linked central defender

Tuttosport have revealed that Juventus are one of three Serie A clubs eyeing a move for Eintracht Frankfurt centre-back Evan Ndicka, who was previously reported to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Spurs’ pursuit of a left-sided centre-back during the summer transfer window was well-publicised, with Ndicka alleged to be one of the names on the North London club’s radar at the time (Foot Mercato).

Antonio Conte’s men snapped up Clement Lenglet on a season-long loan deal instead while his fellow Frenchman Ndicka stayed put at Frankfurt.

The Lilywhites got a close look at the centre-back in their two Champions League group stage clashes against the Bundesliga side and it remains to be seen whether they will reignite their interest in the 23-year-old, whose current contract at Deutsche Bank Park runs out next summer (Transfermarkt).

Calciomercato.it claimed last month that Frankfurt would be ready to sell Ndicka for a cut-price fee in the region of €8m-€9m (£7m-£7.8m) in January in order to avoid losing him on free in the summer.

According to TuttoSport’s latest update, Juventus are plotting a move for the Frenchman when the transfer window opens.

The report explains that Massimiliano Allegri’s men want to push through a cut-price deal for Ndicka and believe they can win the race for the centre-back despite facing competition from Serie A rivals AS Roma and Inter Milan.

Tuttosport add that Juve have a good relationship with the Frankfurt hierarchy and hope to use that to their advantage in their pursuit of the former Auxerre man.

Spurs Web Opinion

Ndicka was impressive in the Champions League clashes against Spurs and he would arguably be a cheaper alternative to the likes of Alessandro Bastoni and Josko Gvardiol.

However, Tottenham are unlikely to be in the market for a left-sided centre-back until next summer and will miss out on the Frenchman if he leaves Frankfurt in January.
