Report: Juventus could make move for 22-year-old alleged Spurs target

The print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (20/10/22 – as relayed by Sport Witness) has revealed that Juventus have now entered the race for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Mamardashvili impressed at the Mestalla during the 2021/22 season, having shared the number one duties with Jasper Cillessen.

The 22-year-old has established himself as Valencia’s number one this campaign, having started every single one of the club’s 10 La Liga matches so far (Transfermarkt).

Marca reported during the summer transfer window that Spurs were battling Manchester United for Mamardashvili’s signature.

When quizzed about the interest from Tottenham and Man United back in July, the goalkeeper insisted that he was happy at Valencia (Plaza Deportiva).

If Gazzetta’s latest update is to be believed, Juventus could now make a move for Mamardashvili, with the Serie A giants thought to view him as a potential successor for Wojciech Szczesny.

The report adds that the Old Lady face competition from several Premier League clubs for the Valencia star.

Spurs Web Opinion

I believe it would make sense for Spurs to pursue a young, up-and-coming goalkeeper like Mamardashvili, who would perhaps be content to remain as Hugo Lloris’ understudy for a season before taking over the reins from the Frenchman in 2024.
