Report: Juventus hold ‘initial talks’ for midfielder recently linked with Spurs

Juventus are reportedly making progress in their pursuit of Kalvin Phillips, with ‘initial talks’ underway to secure a loan move for the Manchester City midfielder, who has also attracted attention from Tottenham Hotspur.

The central midfield area for Tottenham is arguably one of the strongest aspects of Ange Postecoglou‘s squad, when all the players are fit and available.

With Pape Sarr finally showing what he can do, and Yves Bissouma putting in solid performances in the early stages of the season, plus Rodrigo Bentancur back from a long-term injury, Spurs were spoiled for choice.

However, Bentancur is now injured again, while both Sarr and Bissouma will be heading to the African Cup of Nations in January. This has opened the door for the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp, and also means Postecoglou may even need to acquire another midfielder next month.

Manchester City clearly have no use for Kalvin Phillips, and both Tottenham and Newcastle United have been linked with the England international (talkSPORT).

Juventus are in for Kalvin Phillips

However, it seems Juventus have swooped in to beat the competition and get negotiations started early, as Sky Sports Premier League report the Italian side are now in talks with City to discuss a loan move.

Sky Sports tweeted: “Juventus have held initial talks with Manchester City about a January loan deal for Kalvin Phillips. The Italians are in the market for a new midfielder next month and are inquiring about several targets, including Phillips and Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I really can’t see Spurs even going for Phillips. If I’m honest, we can find better players out there who wouldn’t be as much of a burden on the wage bill anyway. As for Hojbjerg, I don’t think he’s going anywhere, as we need him to cover.
