Report: Juventus might have the upper hand on Spurs in race for centre-back

Tuttosport have revealed that Juventus could have the upper hand over Tottenham Hotspur and other clubs in the race for Bologna centre-back Riccardo Calafiori.

The report says that Juve have identified Calafiori as their priority target for this summer and are now ready to push ahead with a move for the player.

This is because the Old Lady are looking to replace Alex Sandro and the fact that the Bologna star can operate as a centre-back and as a left-back is thought to appeal to the Italian giants.

Juventus hold the upper hand in Calafiori race

TuttoSport say that the Bianconer have to be wary of competition from other clubs, with Tottenham and Bayer Leverkusen ‘in particular’ keen on Calafiori.

In fact, both the German club and the Premier League side have allegedly watched the defender in action several times and have been impressed by what they have seen.

It is revealed that Bologna want more than €25m (£21.3m) for the centre-back but this fee is not thought to be an issue for Tottenham.

However, Ange Postecoglou’s men would have to convince Calafiori to move to N17 as the player prefers to remain in Serie A, thus handing the Serie A giants the upper hand in the race.

The pull of Juventus might be substantial for a young Italian player like Calafiori but the project underway at Tottenham would also be attractive to the youngster and the Lilywhites would be able to offer him a much more lucrative contract.
