Report: Juventus named as Tottenham’s main competitor for 21-year-old

TuttoSport have now claimed that Tottenham Hotspur look set to battle it out with Juventus for the services of Bologna centre-back Riccardo Calafiori this summer.

Calafiori has had a stellar first year in Serie A since his switch from Basel last summer and the versatile defender, who can also operate at left-back, is now being linked with moves to several big clubs.

Over the last few weeks, various outlets have suggested that Tottenham will face competition from a number of Italian clubs for the 21-year-old, with Juve, AC Milan and Napoli all named as the youngster’s admirers (TuttoMercatoWeb).

Juventus and Tottenham both like Riccardo Calafiori

TuttoSport have now become the latest outlet to talk in glowing terms of Calafiori’s performances this season and they suggest that the defender is now on the cusp of being called up to the Italy squad.

The report also says that the youngster ‘is in the sights’ of Tottenham, with the North London club said to be keeping an eye on his performances at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium.

However, the publication makes it clear that Spurs will not have everything their own way as the Bianconeri also hold a serious interest in Calafiori.

Like with the Albert Gudmundsson and Ederson pursuits, the price will not be an issue for Calafiori. Spurs would be able to outbid Juve and offer the player a better salary than the Turin giants can but the decision might come down to the centre-back, who might prefer to remain in Italy.
