Report: Juventus ready to rival Spurs for £40m-rated midfielder

Juventus are said to have entered the race to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Lemar, who is also reportedly wanted by Tottenham.

Spurs were heavily linked with a move for Lemar in January with Foot Mercato reporting that the club were in negotiations with Atletico regarding signing the pacey forward while Diario AS claimed that Jose Mourinho is a big fan of the former Monaco winger.

The Mirror meanwhile also reported last month that Tottenham’s North London rivals, Arsenal also held an interest in Lemar.

The French international has seen his opportunities at the Wanda Metropolitano limited this season by the arrival of Joao Felix in the summer.

He has failed to hit the heights expected of him at Madrid after his move from Monaco a year and a half ago.

Now Calciomercato reports that Juventus have identified Lemar as the man to replace Douglas Costa and could make a move for him in the summer.

The report claims that Spurs and Arsenal still hold an interest in the forward who is rated at around £40 million, and will push the Italian champions for his signature in the summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

I have been left completely unconvinced by Lemar’s performances for Atletico and so I’m not particularly keen on this deal. However, he might suit the counter-attacking style that Jose wants to employ. Perhaps the Spurs boss is hoping he can get Lemar performing to the level he was at Monaco.
