Report: Key Everton star suspended for clash against Tottenham

Liverpool Echo have confirmed that Anthony Gordon has been suspended for Everton’s trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the weekend.

Spurs got back to winning ways at the Amex Stadium on Saturday, with the Lilywhites grinding out a 1-0 win and consigning Brighton to their first defeat at home in the Premier League since March.

The result came as a much-needed boost as the Tottenham players and coaching staff continue to come to terms with Gian Piero Ventrone’s tragic passing last week.

Tottenham will now return to Champions League action at home on Wednesday against Eintracht Frankfurt before facing off against Everton on Saturday.

The Toffees have been handed a blow ahead of the clash, with one of their key players in Gordon being suspended after the winger picked up his fifth yellow card of the season during their 2-1 loss to Manchester United at Goodison Park last night.

The 21-year-old, who has scored two goals in the Premier League this season, will be a big miss for Frank Lampard’s men, for whom goals have not been easy to come by.

Spurs Web Opinion

Despite sitting relatively comfortably (compared to last season) in 12th place, Everton have not really posed much of an attacking threat, having scored just eight goals in their nine league games so far this season. Conte will look at this game as a must-win, particularly given our excellent record at home.
