Report: La Liga club finding negotiations with winger ‘difficult’ amidst Spurs links

Mundo Deportivo have claimed that Barcelona are having difficulties in their attempts to tie Ousmane Dembele down to a new contract amidst interest from the likes of Tottenham Hotspur.

While Dembele’s talent has never been in question, the pacy wide-man has failed to fulfil his potential since his big-money transfer from Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona four and a half years ago.

The 24-year-old’s current deal at the Camp Nou runs out in the summer and it was previously reported that Spurs were one of the clubs showing interest in snapping up the winger in the January transfer window.

Mundo Depertivo have now revealed that Barca still view signing Dembele to a new deal as a ‘priority’.

However, it is explained that a new contract seems ‘difficult to materialise’, with the Catalan club finding the French international’s agent to be ‘elusive’ in negotiations.

It is asserted that this is because of the fact that Dembele’s representative has received offers for the player from several clubs across the continent.

Apart from Spurs, the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Newcastle, and Juventus are also said to be eyeing a deal for the Barca star.

One can argue that Dembele needs a fresh start away from Camp Nou to reignite his career and fulfil his potential. However, signing the Frenchman would certainly come with risks given his alleged attitude problems off the pitch.

While the 24-year-old would be a good fit for Conte’s set-up tactically, I have my doubts if his personality will be a good fit, given the effort and commitment that the Italian demands from his players on a regular basis.
