Report: La Liga club have contacted Tottenham about signing 27-year-old

According to reports from Spain, Real Betis may find it easier to sign Giovani Lo Celso next month if the midfielder is still available, as Tottenham Hotspur will be more ‘flexible’ to agreeing to a loan deal.

The 27-year-old left Real Betis for Tottenham in 2019 in a deal believed to be worth around £55m (The Guardian). Since then, things haven’t really gone to plan for Lo Celso, who has struggled to make an impact in North London.

Lo Celso has actually spent the last couple of years in Spain with Villarreal, where he has enjoyed a fairly successful loan spell.

The Argentine has clearly caught the eye over there, as both Barcelona and Betis have been linked with a move for him this summer (Sport).

The two Spanish outfits are not alone, however, as Italian champions Napoli are also thought to be keen on Lo Celso (CalcioMercato).

Spurs are believed to be holding out for a fee of €25m (£21.6m) for the playmaker and would prefer a sale as opposed to a loan move (TuttoMercatoWeb).

According to Italian journalist Ciro Venerato (Tgr Rai, relayed by Tutto Napoli), Napoli see little chance of a successful negotiation given the stance of the North London club.

Spurs may have to be more flexible on Lo Celso

Real Betis, meanwhile, are not giving up so easily and could find their patience rewarded with a more suitable deal in August. That is, if Lo Celso has not found a new club by that point.

In the latest edition of ABC Sevilla, it is claimed Betis “have called” both Lo Celso and his club to express their desire to sign the player.

The problem is, Spurs are reluctant to let Lo Celso go for cheap and their valuation is currently “unattainable” for Manuel Pellegrini and Real Betis.

While the deal appears to be “unfeasible” at this stage, the report states Lo Celso is available this summer having failed to impress Ange Postecoglou.

And, if no club has signed him by next month, Betis could find themselves able to agree a loan move for Lo Celso as it is believed Spurs will need to be “more flexible.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There seems to be plenty of interest in Lo Celso so there should be no trouble offloading him quickly.

If he isn’t wanted at Spurs, we have to push for a permanent deal to get him off our books, as there is no point loaning him out yet again.
