Report: La Liga club have slapped £26m price tag on alleged Spurs target

TuttoMercatoWeb have revealed that Villarreal have informed clubs that Tottenham target Pau Torres would cost €30m (£26m) this summer.

Torres is set to run into the final year of his contract at Villarreal in June (Tranfermarkt) and multiple publications this week have talked up the chances of the centre-back leaving the La Liga club this summer.

One of those was Football Transfers, who reported at the start of this week that Tottenham are ready to reignite their interest in the Spaniard this summer after failing to with a move for him last summer.

The publication asserted that the Lilywhites face competition from Juventus and Aston Villa for the centre-back’s services, with Unai Emery said to be keen on reuniting with the player at Villa Park.

The same three clubs were named as the leading contenders for Torres’ signature in Fichajes’ report on Tuesday, which asserted that Villarreal might be prepared to cash in on the defender as they are aware that tying him down to a new deal would prove difficult.

TMW have now explored Juventus’ pursuit of the centre-back, explaining that the negotiations have hit a hiccup since the Old Lady are uncertain if they would be able to pay €30m (£26m) for the 26-year-old.

The Italian outlet suggests that the Premier League thus looks like Torres’ most likely destination this summer, as things stand.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that Tottenham are going to be in the market for a left-sided centre-back this summer as I do not expect the club to sign Leglet permanently.

However, I believe that the likes of Ndicka and Gvardiol would be better options to go for than Torres, who might struggle to cope with the physical demands of the Premier League.
