Report: La Liga club hoping to sign Spurs player for just £15.2m this summer

El Periodico Mediterraneo have revealed that Villarreal retain hope of being able to snap up Giovani Lo Celso on a cut-price fee this summer.

Lo Celso appears to have played his last game in a Tottenham shirt, with the midfielder being one of the players who was left back in London as the squad jetted off to South Korea over the weekend for their pre-season preparations (Charlie Eccleshare).

Marca reported this week that Villarreal remain keen on snapping up Lo Celso permanently this summer on the back of his impressive loan spell at El Madrigal during the second half of last season.

The report stated that Spurs want to recoup as much of the €40m (£33.7m) they paid for the Argentine as possible but suggested that Villarreal would need to sell players before making an offer for the midfielder.

El Periodico Mediterraneo have now claimed that Unai Emery’s men continue to view Lo Celso as their priority target this summer.

However, it is explained that a deal for the 26-year-old is expected to prove ‘complex’ this summer. The report also adds that the La Liga club hope that an offer of around €18m (£15.2m) would be enough for them to clinch a deal for the midfielder.

Spurs Web Opinion

With Lo Celso seemingly having no shortage of suitors this summer, I would be surprised if Tottenham sold him for as little as £15m. I think the Lilywhites are likely to demand around £20m-£25m for the Argentine, which is why I suspect he might be out of Villarreal’s reach.
