Report: La Liga club in a ‘hurry to close’ deal for Spurs player amidst competition

Alfredo Pedulla has claimed that Villarreal are in a hurry to close a deal for Giovani Lo Celso, with Fiorentina not giving up on their pursuit of the Tottenham midfielder.

TYC Sports journalist Cesar Luis Merlo claimed on Monday that Spurs and Villarreal were in the final stages of negotiations over Lo Celso and the Argentine is expected to return to the La Liga club on a loan deal with an option or obligation to buy.

This was contradicted by Sky Sport Italia, who revealed yesterday that Fiorentina are growing in confidence at the prospect of beating Unai Emery’s side to the 26-year-old after La Liga blocked Villareal’s move for the Tottenham man due to financial fair play rules.

However, Pedulla has now indicated that the Spanish club are still the favourites to snap up Lo Celso, stating that the midfielder is getting ‘closer’ to sealing a return to the El Madrigal.

The journalist remarked that Spurs have given the green light for the former Real Betis man to return to Villarreal.

Pedulla added that Fiorentina are expected to try again to hijack the deal today, and the Yellow Submarine are in a ‘hurry to close’ the transfer.

Based on the various reports over recent days, it does sound like Villarreal are overwhelming favourites to win the race for Lo Celso and Fiorentina are waiting to pounce in case the La Liga club are not able to close the deal. One would expect this transfer to be completed before the end of the week.
