Report: La Liga club put £51.7m price tag on centre-back linked with Spurs

According to AS, Atletico Madrid are willing to sell Jose Gimenez, who is rumoured to be of interest to Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham are now reportedly close to signing Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona (Fabrizio Romano) but some reports have indicated that Antonio Conte wants to add another central defender to his squad (GiveMeSport).

Gimenez is thought to be one of the names on Spurs’ radar, with Uruguayan publication Tenfield have reported that the Lilywhites enquired about the centre-back along with Manchester United and Chelsea.

AS have now explained that Atletico need to raise money in order to pursue their transfer targets and the centre-back is one of the players the La Liga side are ready to listen to offers for.

The report states that Atletico have ‘received strong interest’ in Gimenez and, although Diego Simione considers him an important player, the club have opened the door to him leaving.

However, it is explained that Los Colchoneros have informed interested clubs that they would not sell the 27-year-old for less than €60m (£51.7m).

Spurs Web Opinion

I believe Conte will view Lenglet as someone who can cover for both Dier and Davies in the central sweeper and left centre-back roles, with Joe Rodon on his way out.

I do not think the France international will be the only centre-back to come through the door at Spurs this summer as I also expect Davinson Sanchez to leave.

Gimenez would certainly fit the bill as he would be able to cover for both Dier and Romero. However, given Atletico’s steep asking price, Spurs might prefer to sign Gleison Bremer instead.
