Report: La Liga club to open contract talks with star after Tottenham interest

AS have revealed that Atletico Madrid are ready to begin contract talks with Tottenham target Yannick Carrasco in order to secure his future.

Tottenham have strengthened at left wing-back this summer through the addition of Ivan Perisic and the North London club are expected to accelerate a move for Middlesbrough’s Djed Spence for the other flank (Sky Sports).

Another wing-back who was previously reported to be on Spurs’ radar is Carrasco, with The Evening Standard revealing last month that the Belgian international’s name had been discussed by the Lilywhites hierarchy.

AS have now claimed that Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United have enquired about the 28-year-old’s availability this summer.

The report states Diego Simeone sees Carrasco as being a fundamental part of his plans and has no intention of letting him leave this summer.

However, it is explained that the wing-back, who has two years left on his contract at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, feels entitled to a higher salary.

Atletico are thus said to be ready to begin talks over a contract extension for Carrasco in order to keep him happy in the Spanish capital.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Spurs did hold an interest in Carrasco, Conte would have likely viewed the Belgian as an option for the left wing-back role. So, our interest in the 28-year-old would have ended the moment Ivan Perisic walked through the door last month.
