Report: La Liga club want Spurs midfielder but are struggling to afford him

A fresh report from Spain claims Giovani Lo Celso is no longer wanted by Tottenham Hotspur, but there is now thought to be only a ‘slim’ chance of him returning to his former club, Real Betis, this summer.

Since signing for Tottenham back in 2019, Lo Celso has not exactly set the world alight and has failed to live up to the big expectations placed on his shoulders.

During his time in North London, the Argentina international has amassed 84 appearances for Spurs, registering eight goals and six assists (Transfermarkt).

The 27-year-old has spent the last two years on loan at Villarreal, but has now returned to Tottenham to work out the next step in his career.

A report from The Athletic previously claimed Lo Celso would be given the chance to impress new Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou.

However, there are clubs interested in acquiring Lo Celso’s services, including his former club Real Betis.

The only problem is, the Spanish side believe the playmaker could be beyond their budget this summer (Mucho Deporte).

Spurs don’t want Lo Celso, Real Betis can’t afford him

The latest report from Spain comes from AS, who corroborate the idea that Real Betis are keen on bringing Lo Celso back but will struggle to afford him.

Apparently, Tottenham definitely “want to get rid” of Lo Celso this summer, but their desire to offload the midfielder may prove to be fruitless where Real Betis are concerned.

The report adds that they “sigh in Heliopolis” for their former player, but the chances of him returning to the Spanish club are now “slim” due to Betis’ financial situation.

Spurs Web Opinion

Giovani Lo Celso is highly likely to move on this summer, and while Real Betis may not be able to afford him, there will undoubtedly be other clubs circling.

I would say it’s highly likely Lo Celso will be back in La Liga next season.
