Tottenham Hotspur may be able to sign Barcelona’s Ferran Torres this summer as the Catalan club look to raise funds to sign new players themselves.
Torres joined the Spanish side in January of last year from Premier League champions Manchester City.
He made just 43 appearances for City before moving on, scoring an impressive 16 goals and registering four assists (Transfermarkt).
The 23-year-old has been something of a regular for the La Liga giants, too. He has turned out 36 times for Barca this term, but has only managed six goals and two assists (Transfermarkt).
Reports from Italy last month suggested Torres is being prepared to leave Barcelona at the end of the season, with Tottenham Hotspur thought to be at the head of the queue to sign the former City winger (CalcioMercato).
Now, it sounds like his current club are more than willing to part ways with the Spaniard, if it means they can facilitate the signing of new players with the funds.
According to Sport, Torres is one of three attackers Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez is open to selling in the summer as he looks to refresh his frontline for next season.
The report claims that Tottenham would be right in the mix to sign the talented attacker, and it is insinuated that they could pick up a cut-price deal for a player who cost Barca £48 million just under 18 months ago.
Spurs Web Opinion
Ferran Torres is a quality player who has already proven he can do a job in the Premier League.
I wouldn’t say our attack is a priority come the summer, but if we can pick him up at a decent price, it has to be considered.
With Lucas Moura on the way out, and Bryan Gil and Arnaut Danjuma’s future in the balance, Torres could be a great option.
