Report: La Liga manager has asked his club to sign Tottenham player as a test of support

Sky Sports have revealed that Xavi Hernandez has asked Barcelona to sign Giovani Lo Celso, with the 43-year-old seeing the request as a test of the Catalan club’s support of him.

Lo Celso has stepped up to the plate in the absence of Rodrigo Bentancur and James Maddison over recent weeks, having scored twice in his last three Premier League starts.

The 27-year-old has demonstrated his value to Ange Postecoglou and some reports over the last few days have indicated that the Aussie coach will not consider letting the midfielder leave in January (Dean Jones – GiveMeSport)

Xavi continues to push for Tottenham’s Gio Lo Celso

Sky Sports have now become the latest publication to report on Barca’s interest in Lo Celso, revealing that Xavi remains keen on bringing the player to Camp Nou.

It is explained that the Barca boss wanted the Spurs star to be signed last summer and has told the La Liga club’s hierarchy again that he needs a player of the Argentina international’s profile following the injury to Gavi.

The publication asserts that Xavi’s request is considered a test of how much support he has from the Blaugrana hierarchy.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think this transfer is on the cards as Barcelona are not in a financial position to pay a fee for Lo Celso in January. They would want to sign the midfielder on loan and there is no reason for Tottenham to entertain any loan offers for the 27-year-old.
