TuttoMercatoWeb have revealed that Lazio hold an interest in Tottenham winger Steven Bergwijn.
Bergwijn has not made a single start since Antonio Conte took over at Spurs at the beginning of last month.
Reports over recent weeks have indicated the former PSV Eindhoven man is not in Conte’s plans and Tottenham would be open to cashing in on him in January.
However, the Tottenham boss insisted earlier this month that he does ‘count on’ the 24-year-old and raved about the qualities that he possesses, as well as his versatility.
Ajax are said to be keen on bringing the Netherlands international back to the Eredivisie while Fabrizio Romano claimed last week (Here We Go Podcast) that several clubs would be interested in signing Bergwijn from Tottenham in January if the winger becomes available.
According to TMW, Lazio have now also entered the race for the out-of-favour Spurs winger. The report claims that Bergwijn is in the ‘sights’ of Maurizio Sarri’s side and the club could make a move for the player ‘in the next few days’.
Spurs Web Opinion
I believe that Bergwijn is a good fit for Conte’s set up and I initially thought that the 24-year-old would be one of the biggest beneficiaries of the Italian’s appointment.
However, I just do not see how he is going to be able to force himself into the starting eleven, particularly given Lucas’ impressive form. So, I would not be surprised if Spurs do cash in on Bergwijn in January.
