Report: Leeds set to join race to sign £20m alleged Tottenham target

According to The Sun, Leeds have joined the race to sign Juventus midfielder and reported Tottenham target Weston McKennie.

The Whites have endured a tough opening half of the season will be looking to retain their Premier League status come the end of the campaign.

However, Marcelo Bielsa’s side have been decimated by injuries throughout the campaign, with key man Kalvin Phillips the latest to face a lengthy spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on a hamstring problem.

Leeds are now said to be planning to bolster the ranks in midfield, with The Sun claiming they have shortlisted USA international McKennie as a potential incoming.

The report states Leeds will have to fork out around £20 million for the 23-year-old, who has endured a mixed stint at the Old Lady since his move from Schalke.

McKennie was linked with a potential move to the Premier League in the summer after sporting director Fabio Paratici was allegedly keen for a reunion having originally signed him for Juventus (Tuttosport – via Sport Witness).

A move never came to fruition, but current Spurs boss Antonio Conte is said to have set his sights on the midfielder ahead of a possible raid on his former club.

The McKennie links seem to come and go, but this seems like a player that Spurs could sign if they really want him. Spurs do have quite a few options in central midfield, though, so maybe it is not an area of priority at the moment.
