Report: Leeds United enter race for £20m-rated Tottenham midfielder

The Liverpool Echo have revealed that Leeds United have entered the race for Harry Winks amidst Tottenham’s negotiations with Everton regarding the midfielder.

It initially emerged last week that Spurs were willing to use Winks as a makeweight in the deal to sign Richarlison from Everton (Daily Mail).

However, The Telegraph reported earlier this week that the Toffees were not interested in signing the Spurs midfielder.

This has now been contradicted by The Echo, who claim that Everton remain keen on securing Winks’ services this summer.

However, it is revealed that while Frank Lampard’s men want to sign the England international on loan, Tottenham would prefer to sell him permanently for a fee of £20m.

It is explained that Spurs’ asking price for the 26-year-old could drop later in the transfer window.

Leeds are now thought to have entered the race for Winks, with Jesse Marsch said to be keen on bolstering his options in the middle of the park.

However, The Echo add that despite Leeds’ interest, the Spurs midfielder prefers to move to Goodison Park this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Both Everton and Leeds would be good moves for Winks as Lampard’s and Marsch’s styles of play would suit the midfielder. I would not be surprised if more clubs (maybe the likes of Brighton and Palace) enter the race for the 26-year-old over the coming weeks.
