Report: Leeds United ‘getting closer’ to signing Spurs man for £15m this summer

Tutto Mercato Web have revealed that Leeds United are closing in on a deal for Tottenham Hotspur central defender, Juan Foyth.

There has been an air of inevitability about Foyth’s departure for a while now, with the defender hardly being given any minutes since the arrival of Jose Mourinho to the club.

Football Insider reported back in April that the 22-year-old had already played his last game for Spurs. Leeds United have also previously been mentioned as one of the sides who are interested in snapping up the Spurs defender (TYC Sports).

Foyth insisted last week that he would like to stay and fight for his place at Tottenham, if the club want to keep him.

Speaking to Libero (as relayed by Football.London), he said: “If I have the chance to compete for a spot, I would like to stay at Spurs.

“Mourinho is very close to the players. Even though I didn’t play much, I think he’s a great coach and person. He wants to win at all costs.”

However, Tutto Mercato Web now reveal that Leeds have already begun talks to sign the Argentine after winning promotion to the Premier League.

The report asserts that Foyth has been a long-term target for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, who are said to be ‘getting closer’ to reaching an agreement worth £15m for the defender.

Spurs Web Opinion

We might come to regret selling Foyth as I believe he could potentially shine in Marcelo Bielsa’s system. I believe it would make more sense for us to loan him out. However, given that we seem to be short of funds this summer, it looks as if the Argentine is going to be sacrificed.
