Report: Leicester City enter race for 22-year-old alleged Spurs target

Get French Football News claim that Leicester City have entered the race to sign Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Meslier has been one of the stand-out goalkeepers in the Premier League since Leeds’ promotion to the top flight two years ago.

It was reported on The Athletic’s Phil Hay Show earlier this week that the 22-year-old was of interest to several clubs across the Premier League, with Tottenham said to be ‘particularly interested’ in the Leeds star.

Fabrizio Romano subsequently took to social media on Wednesday to reveal that Manchester United were keen on signing a goalkeeper before the transfer window closes and had identified Meslier as a target.

However, the journalist added that Leeds had shown no interest in even starting negotiations with the Red Devils and that the Elland Road hierarchy consider the former Lorient shot-stopper to be ‘untouchable’.

GFFN have now claimed that Leicester have also expressed an interest in signing Meslier, with the Foxes said to have identified the youngster as the man to replace Kasper Schmeichel between the sticks.

The report also explains that Man Utd have turned their attention to Borussia Monchengladbach’s Yann Sommer after their efforts to sign Meslier were thwarted by Leeds.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is not surprising to see so many clubs expressing an interest in Meslier. Not only is the 22-year-old an excellent shot-stopper, but he is also good with the ball at his feet. He is still extremely young for a goalkeeper and could potentially be the number one for a top club for more than a decade.
