Report: Leicester City leapfrog Spurs in race for £30m-rated midfielder

The Daily Star claim that Leicester City have leapfrogged Tottenham Hotspur in the race for Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare.

Soumare’s reputation has grown considerably since he left Paris Saint-Germain to join Lille in 2017.

The 22-year-old has even been dubbed the ‘new Paul Pogba’ due to his impressive physicality and technique on the ball.

Soumare was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham in January of last year and Newcastle even reportedly had an offer rejected from Lille for the midfielder during the same month.

The Daily Star claim that Spurs are once again tracking Soumare ahead of the summer transfer window, while Manchester United are also said keen on the Frenchman.

However, it is Leicester who are thought to be the front-runners for the midfielder’s signature as things stand.

The report claims that the Foxes are confident of securing a £30m deal for the Lille star when the transfer window opens in the summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Even if Winks and Sissoko are both sold this summer, I do not expect us to spend big on another central midfielder. With Hojbjerg, Ndombele and Lo Celso likely to stay and Skipp also set to be added to the squad, we likely only an extra body as cover in that position. I would be happy if we land like Sander Berge on a cut-price deal and use the majority of our funds to strengthen at centre-back and right-back.
