Report: Leicester City used connections to beat Spurs to summer signing

Tottenham Hotspur were reportedly interested in Wesley Fofana last summer before Leicester City made the move to sign him from Saint-Étienne.

The Foxes signed Fofana, who was 19 at the time for a fee which could rise to £30million (Sky Sports).

ESPN claim that Jose Mourinho had the young defender on his summer shopping list only for Brendan Rodgers to make a deadline day move.

Despite his inexperience, Fofana has hardly put a foot wrong this season for the Foxes who currently occupy third place in the Premier League table.

The report suggests that Leicester had ‘connections’ in France which helped them to gain an advantage over Tottenham to secure his signature.

Given the fact that Spurs are still said to be in the market for a new central defender (Evening Standard) missing out on Fofana looks to be a big miss for the North Londoners given his age and the relatively low transfer fee.
