Report: Leicester make initial approach for midfielder targeted by Spurs

Leicester City have made an approach to sign Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana on a free in the summer, according to reports.

The Daily Mail reported at the start of the month that Lallana will not be extending his stay at Anfield after his contract with Liverpool runs out in June and that Spurs are considering making an offer to the midfielder’s representatives at the end of the season.

The report also credits Spurs’ North London rivals, Arsenal with interest in the 31-year-old.

However, Sky Sports now reports that Leicester have stolen a march on both Spurs and Arsenal as they attempt to land the former Southampton star.

The report suggests that Brendan Rodgers is keen on reuniting with Lallana and the Foxes are said to be working on a deal to bring him to the King Power stadium.

It is also revealed that, while Lallana is free to negotiate and sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club, he would require Liverpool’s permission to have discussions with an English club before his contract with the Reds runs out.

Spurs Web Opinion

Lallana can potentially be a fantastic option as a free transfer for a lot of teams. However, given his age, I don’t think this is the type of signing that is likely to take us to the next level. Besides, we are fairly well stocked for attacking midfielders at the moment and so I’m not sure Lallana will even add much as a squad option.
