Report: Leicester star tells friends he would jump at chance to join Spurs

Leicester City star James Maddison has reportedly told those close to him that he would ‘jump at the chance’ to join Tottenham Hotspur if the club were to make a move for him.

The 25-year-old was linked with Spurs in the summer, as Antonio Conte searched for a playmaking midfielder (Evening Standard).

Tottenham didn’t end up making a bid for Maddison though, and it’s believed that this is due to Leicester City suggesting the player was not for sale (GiveMeSport).

Maddison has made an impressive start to the season, even if his club haven’t. Despite Leicester being bottom of the Premier League table, Maddison has scored three goals and provided one assist in six matches so far (Transfermarkt).

He continues a run of form from last season which saw him end the campaign with 18 goals and 12 assists in all competitions for Leicester (Transfermarkt).

Many believe Maddison has his sights set on playing European football, and Ben Jacobs told GiveMeSport previously that both the player and Tottenham Hotspur could be willing to wait and get the deal done in the future.

Now, it’s reported that Maddison has spoken to his friends about his future, and is still ‘very keen’ on the move to Tottenham. In a Football Insider exclusive, it appears Maddison would ‘jump at the chance’ to join Spurs if they come back for him.

Maddison will have just 18 months left on his contract in January, and if Leicester continue to struggle as they have so far this season, it will presumably be very difficult for them to persuade him to stick around.

Spurs Web Opinion

I really like James Maddison; he offers a real goal threat and is such a creative player. As we saw in the game against Leicester recently, he has no problem getting into dangerous areas and is a great finisher too.

A player like Maddison would offer something very different for this Spurs squad and allow Antonio Conte to experiment with other formations when plan A isn’t working. If we can get a deal done for the right price in January, I say we go for it.
