Report: Leicester step up efforts to sign centre-back wanted by Tottenham

The Sun have revealed that Leicester City have stepped up their pursuit of Torino centre-back Gleison Bremer, who is also on Tottenham’s radar.

Tottenham are expected to prioritise a move for a left-sided central defender during this summer’s transfer window to compete with Ben Davies (The Athletic).

Although Bremer is right-footed, he is accustomed to playing on the left side of the central defence for Torino.

It was previously reported that Tottenham’s managing director of football Fabio Paratici is a fan of the Brazilian and is keen on bringing him to North London this summer (CalcioMercato).

Liverpool (TuttoJuve) and Leicester (Telegraph) had also been credited with an interest in the 25-year-old ahead of the summer transfer window.

If The Sun’s latest update is to be believed, the Foxes are now trying to steal a march on other suitors in the race for Bremer’s signature.

It is revealed that Leicester officials met with their Torino counterparts in Italy this week in order to thrash out a deal for the central defender.

Brendan Rodgers’ men are said to be willing to include Dennis Praet, who is currently on loan at Torino, as part of the deal to bring Bremer to the King Power Stadium.

The report adds that Spurs, Liverpool, Chelsea, Everton and AC Milan also continue to weigh up a move for the Torino defender.

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect Conte will want a naturally left-footed player at left centre-back in order to ensure balance. That is why I expect the likes of Pau Torres, Alessandro Bastoni or Sven Botman to be higher up on Tottenham’s wishlist than Bremer.

However, if Joe Rodon and Davinson Sanchez leave as expected, we are likely going to be in the market for more than just one central defender this summer. Bremer’s versatility could thus come in handy for Conte.
