Report: Leicester to offer star new contract amidst rumoured Spurs interest

Tottenham’s poor recent form has shown up many of the weaknesses in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad. The full back areas look like the ones that need the most immediate attention.

While the problems at right-back have been well documented, Spurs also arguably need a long term replacement for Danny Rose with the England full-back looking a shadow of the player he was a couple of years ago.

One player who Spurs have been linked with is Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell, whose consistent performances for the Foxes have made him one of the most sought after left-backs in English football.

However, it looks like Chilwell could be out of Spurs’ reach with the Daily Star reporting that the Foxes are reportedly set to offer the England star a new contract worth £25m.

The report claims that Leicester are willing to offer the 22-year-old a new deal worth £100,000 a week, even though he put pen to paper on a new contract just a year ago in order to ward off interest from the likes of Spurs, Chelsea and Manchester United.

Much like James Maddison, I believe Tottenham’s opportunity to sign Chilwell as already passed. While he would have probably been good value a year ago, his asking price has gone up considerably and his performances have also dropped a bit this season. I believe Spurs will be much better off going for someone like Lucas Digne.
