Report: Levy masterminded Conte joining – Planning ‘big push back towards the elite’

The Athletic have revealed that it was Daniel Levy who spearheaded Antonio Conte’s move to Tottenham and not Fabio Paratici.

When Conte took over as Spurs head coach six months ago, it was reported at the time that it was Paratici who convinced the Italian to come to North London (Fabrizio Romano).

The Tottenham managing director of football already had a relationship with the 52-year-old, with the pair having previously worked together at Juventus.

However, The Athletic have now claimed that Conte being Tottenham’s head coach is a triumph of Levy alone. It was the Spurs chairman who allegedly drove the deal and ‘presented it to Paratici as a fait accompli’.

The report asserts that Levy is unequivocally behind Conte and is committed to him being a success at Spurs.

Spurs are thus expected to back the Italian this summer, with The Athletic stating that the whole club right now is gearing up for one more ‘big push back towards the elite’.

Spurs Web Opinion

Some Spurs fans tend to often accuse Levy of putting ‘profit before glory’ and not caring about on-pitch success.

If that was the case, the Spurs chairman would be making safe managerial appointments rather than ones like Mourinho and Conte, who are not shy to criticise the board publicly.

Levy clearly cares about his legacy at Spurs and he is as desperate as anybody else for us to win silverware.
