Report: Levy ready to spend ‘major funds’ and let Conte ‘overhaul’ squad

The Daily Mirror have claimed that Daniel Levy has promised Antonio Conte ‘major funds’ to spend this summer to persuade him to become the next Tottenham manager.

Reports indicate that extensive negotiations have been held between the two parties, with Conte set to make his final decision next week.

As one would have expected, rumours suggest that the Italian is making some major demands in order to take the job.

If The Mirror are to be believed, Levy is ready to hand Conte a big transfer kitty if he agrees to take over.

The Spurs chairman accepts that the squad needs a major overhaul and several players have to be signed in order to replenish an ageing squad.

Levy is reportedly also hopeful that investing in the squad might help to persuade Harry Kane to stay and change the mood of the supporters.

It is asserted that Spurs primarily want to strengthen in central defence, at right-back and in central midfield.

Conte will only arrive if he is guaranteed a significant transfer budget and so, it will be a real message of ambition from Levy if the Italian is appointed.

It is also a gamble considering that the club’s finances are not in a particularly great position but one that will pay off at least partially if we get back into the top four.
