Report: Ligue 1 club already lining up replacement for defender wanted by Spurs

Lille are reportedly eyeing a potential replacement for full-back Zeki Celik, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham this summer.

Celik has been an ever-present in the Lille backline and the right-back’s performances in Ligue 1 haven’t gone unnoticed.

Tottenham were said to be interested in signing the 23-year-old during the January transfer window (Turkish publication DHA) but the defender ended up staying put in France.

BuzzSport reported back in March that Jose Mourinho was a big fan of the Turkish international and that Spurs could make an offer for Celik in the summer.

The same publication now reveals that Lille fear that the defender could leave the Stade Pierre Mauroy this summer as he is attracting interest from Spurs, as well as Everton and AC Milan.

The club are thus expected to make an approach for Strasbourg right-back Kenny Lala in order to cope with the loss of Celik.

Spurs Web Opinion

Joao Sacramento will know Celik well having worked with him at Lille. To me, he seems too conservative on the ball for a modern-day full-back but perhaps that is what Jose is looking for as a contrast to Aurier who is good going forward but poor defensively.
