Report: Ligue 1 club make contact over deal for one of Paratici’s first Spurs signings

According to a report in L’Equipe (as relayed by journalist Nabil Djellit) Marseille have contacted Tottenham regarding the availability of Bryan Gil.

The print edition of AS (30/05/22 – as relayed by Sport Witness) claimed last month that Valencia are keen to extend Gil’s stay at the club and that Los Che chief Anil Murthy had even flown to London to discuss the possibility with the Spurs hierarchy.

El Desmarque claimed a couple of weeks ago that Gennaro Gattuso’s appointment is likely to boost the La Liga club’s chances of bringing the Spurs winger back to the Mestalla.

However, Valencia are not the only club after Gil, with Mundo Deportivo reporting earlier this month that Real Sociedad are also keen on the 21-year-old.

L’Equipe have now revealed that Marseille are the latest club to enter the race for Gil, with the Ligue 1 club thought to have contacted Spurs regarding a loan deal for the Spain Under-21 international.

The report adds that the Ligue 1 club’s president Pablo Longoria appreciates the winger’s profile and personally made a phone call to Tottenham to enquire about his availability ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed contact between Marseille and Spurs.

I suspect Gil would prefer to return to the home comforts of La Liga ahead of the World Cup in November to give himself the best chance of making it into Spain’s squad. I would not be surprised if the 21-year-old ends up back at Valencia this summer.
