Report: Ligue 1 club Nice could now enter race to sign Tottenham player

According to the print edition of The Mirror (21/08, p68), Nice could be the latest club to enter the race for Sergio Reguilon’s signature.

With just over a week left in the transfer window, the race for Reguilon’s signature seems to be heating up.

Over recent days, reports from Italy have indicated that Lazio could make a late move for the Spaniard (CalcioMercato) while it has also been suggested that Tottenham could use the 25-year-old as a makeweight in a deal to sign Ruslan Malinovskyi from Atalanta (Bergamo Corriere).

The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported on Monday that Nottingham Forest have entered into talks with Spurs over signing Reguilon on loan.

90 min reported on the same day that West Ham had also expressed interest in the Spurs star, although their top priority is thought to be Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri.

If The Mirror’s latest update is to be believed, Nice are now also eyeing a late move for Reguilon, with the Ligue 1 club said to be keen on bolstering their options at left-back.

It is alleged that the French club want the former Real Madrid man to compete with up-and-coming left-back Melvin Bard at the Allianz Riviera this season.

I believe the decision might come down to Reguilon himself as he will want to move to a club where he is guaranteed regular game time in order to give himself a fighting chance to make Spain’s squad for the World Cup. I suspect Spurs will probably have to settle for a loan move rather than a permanent sale.
